Because he is made of metal he may rust with age if you display him outdoors but, that is part of the beauty/patina. Leave him as he is, or paint him if you so choose.
This item can be displayed indoors or outdoors, in aquariums, on tabletops, a desk, in gardens, with a magnet on the refrigerator, or a suction cup on a window, etc.
